Stainless steel has high deformation resistance and it is generally twice as high as ordinary carbon steel. Because when the deformation of martensite during cold working, the work hardening rate is fast and requires more rolling force and load. Stainless steel has poor thermal conductivity. For example, the thermal conductivity of 321 stainless steel is only 27% of that of carbon steel. Therefore, the mill needs to have a stronger cooling capacity, high dimensional accuracy and plate type requirements, and high surface quality requirements.
Stainless steel cold rolling must be high efficiency and high precision. The most outstanding requirements for cold rolling mills are:
(1) It can produce wide and thin strip steel products, and requires less rolling passes and short rolling time;
(2) The total reduction ratio, especially the first reduction ratio, should be as large as possible to achieve a rolling process without intermediate annealing;
(3) To ensure product dimensional accuracy, good board type and surface quality.
