According to data released by the General Administration of Customs on March 8, China’s steel exports in February were 4.512 million tons, down 335,000 tons or 6.9% year-on-year. The month-on-month decrease was 1.676 million tons, down 27.1%.
Steel exports in February were $3,463.7 million, down 17.9% year-on-year and down 31.9% month-on-month. According to this calculation, the export unit price is 767.7 usd/ton, with a month-on-month decrease of 54.2 usd/ton and a year-on-year decrease of 103.2 usd/ton.
China’s steel imports in February were 819,000 tons, down 208,000 tons or 20.3% from a year earlier. On a month-on-month basis, there was a decrease of 360,000 tons, down 30.5%.
From January to February 2019, China exported 10.7 million tons of steel, up 12.9 percent year-on-year. The total export amount was 85,508 million us dollars, up 1.1 percent year-on-year.
From January to February 2019, China imported 19.98 million tons of steel, down 9.9 percent year-on-year. The total import amount was 2388 million us dollars, down 13.2 percent year-on-year.
From January to February 2019, China imported 174.401 million tons of iron ore ore and its concentrate, down 5.5% from the same period last year.
