The chromium content of ferrite stainless steel is from 15 to30%, it seldom contains nickel, but has a little Mo, Ti, and Nb. It has unique characteristics such as high thermal conductivity, a small coefficient of expansion, good oxidation resistant, and excellent stress corrosion resistance. Ferritic stainless steel grades like 430 stainless steel are known to possess very excellent corrosion resistance. 430 grade is highly resistant to a lot of substances like nitric acid and organic acids. 430 sheets of steel have maximized corrosion resistance in buffed and well-polished conditions.
Its crevice corrosion and pitting resistance are quite similar to 304 stainless steel grade. 430 steel is a high-sulfur-free machining grade. So their pitting and crevice corrosion resistance are lesser compared to non-free machining grades. When it comes to machinability, 430 stainless sheets of steel are easier than any other standard austenitic steels – but there can be a tendency of galling. In an annealed condition, 430 steel grade is easier to machine.
